You are the hero

At least, that's how Las Vegas is planning to appeal to corporate meeting planners in its newest campaign. According to Gaming News:

Five different hero-themed print ads were produced to reflect the diverse genders and ethnic backgrounds of those in the industry. Each ad shows a person in an office environment striking a heroic pose. Headlines include "Glory is on line one" and "From cubicle to cubicle they will praise your name."

Finally, someone is recognizing the power of meeting planners—and it's much catchier than the old "We work as hard as we play" slogan, I think. The article also says reps from the city will be flocking to Springtime Expo in D.C., where "street teams will ride scooters and pedicabs near the Washington Convention Center. They'll pass out brochures and fliers highlighting Las Vegas' meeting and exhibition services." They're also doing a direct mail campaign, where planners could win a Vegas vacation for six.

With all the new high-end properties Vegas now has, I'm not surprised it's going hot and heavy after the corporate market. Until last week, I hadn't been there in a while, and I was really surprised by how lavish (and expensive) the city has gotten. With properties like the new Wynn, Bellagio, Paris, the Venetian, and Mandelay Bay (which my cab driver told me were the hottest hotels for the corporate market), I'm betting a lot of corporate planners probably will don their superhero capes and buzz their meetings down to the Strip. (Disclaimer: I don't know for a fact, but I'm sure hoping our magazines will be running these ads, so I may be a little biased. But I do like this campaign idea a lot. Except now I have Queen's "We Are the Champions" running through my head.)
