EIC Changes CMP Test-Taking Protocols

The Events Industry Council is aiding planners with expanded testing and new exam discounts, plus a webinar this week on event-safety guidance.

The Events Industry Council announced new ways to take the Certified Meeting Professional exam, including remote proctoring and year-round testing.

Upon completion of their CMP application, candidates can now sit for the exam anytime throughout the year, and do so either at a testing center or from their office or home. Prior to this change, candidates could take the exam only at a testing center during one of the four quarterly exam windows.
EIC partners with Prometric, a test-delivery and -assessment firm, for the secure and reliable administration of the exam both at testing centers around the world and online.

“Now more than ever, we recognize that our industry peers need more options to take their CMP exam,” said Amy Calvert, CEO of EIC. “The CMP certification opens the door to more opportunities, and we want to help open as many doors as we can, particularly during these trying times for our industry.” More than 11,000 events industry professionals around the world currently hold the certification, from every segment of the meetings industry: corporations, associations, and governmental and institutional organizations.

EIC is also offering relief support for CMP candidates impacted by COVID-19.

  • EIC will provide a $50 discount on the initial application and $50 for the certification examination fee if the applicant was furloughed, had their position eliminated, or has experienced a salary reduction. Contact certification@eventscouncil.org for a code to enter when making an online payment.
  • To help CMPs keep their certification, EIC is freezing the recertification fee at $225 through September 30, 2020. No code is required.
  • EIC offers free webinars where CMPs can earn 1 CE credit per webinar viewed after taking a quiz, and continues to add webinars to the schedule. Participation in live webinars is free; each can host up to 3,000 attendees.

EIC is hosting a free one-hour webinar on Tuesday, July 14 at 12:30 ET that addresses health-related protocols and guidance for hosting in-person meetings. Led by representatives from the EIC, International Labour Organization, World Health Organization, and World Travel & Tourism Council, attendees will learn about tools and resources from each of these organizations that relate to minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission at live events. The panel will review risk-assessment guidance plus health and safety recommendations to protect participants, venue and foodservice workers, outside vendors, and other event stakeholders. Tools and resources will be shared that allow planners to assess risk factors and implement protocols to improve health and safety during travel and at events, including risks related to mental health.
