Arriving at The Resort at Pedregal is an experience unto itself. After an easy 30-minute drive from the international airport at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, you quickly pass through the bustling town before stopping to check in at the mouth of the privately-owned Dos Mares tunnel that leads to the resort. Carved into the rock, the 984-foot tunnel is a short and stunning transition to the ultra-luxe, 24-acre resort.

After checking in at the open-air lobby and enjoying an optional chair massage, guests are escorted by their personal concierge to one of the 113 spacious guestrooms or suites nestled within the mountainous landscape. All rooms have terraces overlooking the ocean, private plunge pools, complimentary beverage-stocked minibars, and a welcome bottle of Tequila Reserva de la Familia Platino by Jose Cuervo. Guestrooms also feature a Mexican-inspired design that reflects the work of local artists. 

In what has become my favorite hotel amenity anywhere, all guests at The Resort at Pedregal are treated to an afternoon pick-me-up of fresh guacamole, chips, and a bucket of Coronitas beer.

Treatments at the gorgeous, oceanside 12,000-square-foot Luna y Mar spa begin with a complimentary foot bath ritual that includes an herbal cleansing, foot reflexology, and tea brewed according the current phase of the moon. The spa’s pool is a peaceful haven that melts away stress.

Among the resort’s four dining venues is wildly popular El Farallon, where local fish is served in a breathtaking al fresco setting overlooking the sea. There’s an entry display of the fresh-caught fish so guests can see what to choose from, and a champagne terrace for fun and informative tastings of the bubbly before dining.

The Resort at Pedregal is becoming increasingly popular for high-level incentive programs and corporate retreats, says Debbie Mission, director of sales and marketing. There are two executive meeting rooms which each accommodate up to 40 guests. A new event venue just outside the tunnel accommodates up to 60 guests for a reception and has spectacular views overlooking the marina of Cabo San Lucas. And there are many beautiful spots for outdoor receptions at the resort. Along the way, we passed the famous arch of Cabo San Lucas, a distinctive rock formation that rises from the sea like an otherworldly landscape.

The busy and colorful town beach of Cabo San Lucas is a riot of vendors, tourists, and beachfront restaurants perfect for afternoon libations. And it is a short walk through the tunnel for attendees who want to experience a taste of the town.
