First W Hotel Debuts in Costa Rica

Unique features include private open-air showers and a zip line to the beach

The W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal opened this month in a 2,300-acre nature reserve in the Guanacaste province. Each of the 132 guest rooms has a private terrace and open-air shower and each of the 18 suites also has a plunge pool and sitting room. Headboards are designed to mimic the woven nests of a local bird, and each room has a beer tap providing a draft local brew. All accommodations have either ocean views or mangrove forest views.

Event space includes three 646-square-foot studios and a 2,798-square-foot great room that can be divided into two, plus 1,400 square feet of prefunction space. Each meeting space has the latest AV technology and floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto a 3,875-square-foot event lawn.

The property is close to the famed surfing resort of Tamarindo and sits on a white sand beach which guests can access via beach path or zip line from the deck of the infinity pool.

There are 5 dining outlets on the property including a seafood restaurant, Latitud 10° Norte, and Zona Azul, a bar and eatery featuring live DJs and named for the local area, a “blue zone” where life expectancy is longer than average.

Other amenities include the Reserva Conchal golf course and the full-service AWAY Spa, which has its own bar and six private treatment rooms modeled after butterfly cocoons.
