Coping with Attendees Who Book Outside the Block at Religious Meetings

Attendees booking outside the room block caused headaches and attrition penalties for the National Association of Free Will Baptists Inc. Here's how the group is grappling with the problem.

The National Association of Free Will Baptists Inc., based in Antioch, Tenn., wrapped up its annual convention last summer in Cincinnati with a total registration of 5,834. That was just slightly lower than projected, and considering the effects of the ongoing economic downturn, not a bad showing for a meeting drawing a large family attendance. Even so, NAFWB ended up paying $12,000 in attrition penalties at one of its downtown hotels.
